From the Coach

Hello everyone,

Just a brief message to all players at Wanneroo DCC.

I would like to take this opportunity to first wish everyone a productive and memorable season ahead.

We announced our grade Captains a few weeks ago and are confident that the right people are in place to drive this great club forward, a clear indication of our direction and ambition. I would like to take this time to let them know of my support and confidence in their abilities and make sure of the players support and assistance in this campaign.

The future of the club is in good hands in the junior ranks as well, with Greg Williams pivotal in the clubs junior program, ably supported by his junior coaches, support structure and volunteers. It is a solid platform for any aspiring young player to launch a career in this hot bed of talent and hopefully be inspired with the players and greats that blazed a trail before them.

Wanneroo preparation and fitness has been the focus of preseason and stronger than in previous campaigns with huge thanks to Sean king and his expertise in this field. Add to that the recruitment of Gary Atkinson and Peter Clough as bowling coaches which is showing huge improvement in this department.

We also have been fortunate to acquire the services of Jack Leach. Jack is a young man making his way in cricket, representing Somerset in the county championship in UK this year. He will be a valuable asset to Wanneroo DCC and we wish him good luck and every success. We know that Wanneroo DCC will be a perfect club for him. Welcome Jack!

It only remains for me to say: Go well and good luck to all players and coaches in the upcoming season. Trust your talents, work and train hard and play to the maximum of your potential…

Wayne Pearson
Head Coach
Wanneroo District Cricket Club

Season Preview: 1st Grade

Season Preview: 1st Grade

1st Grade:

Last season: 11th
Leading Batsmen: Jake Fawcett (516 @ 51.6), Mitch Mcgee (470 @ 42.73), John Rogers (413 @ 27.53), Rob Richards (387 @ 24.19), Christian Smith (328 @ 21.87), Kyle Millar (288 @ 24), Joel Charles (276 @ 27.6)
Leading Bowlers: Chris Quelch (26 @ 20.23), Gary Atkinson (22 @ 22.64), Kyle Millar (15 @ 39.93)

Last season did not go as well as we had hoped after the success we had the year before. A combination of poor form and untimely injuries to a number of players led to us finishing outside of finals.

This season:
Captain: Chris Quelch
Gains: Younger players really stepping up and finding maturity in their game. Jack Leach comes to us also from the UK, a very promising left arm off spin option to compliment a promising attack.
Losses: We lost a number of players to other clubs and through retirement, however, this only opened the door for the next crop of A grade Roos to step up with more opportunities.
Predicted Finish: Premiers

Chris Quelch: “I am really excited about the 2015 season with the energy and youth around the group revitalizing. I see our batting as a strength with a lot of pressure coming from good young batsmen in all grades. The presence of 2 new bowling coaches has all seen our bowling group progress to the start of the season better prepared than ever. We look forward to once again be competing for finals success in all 3 formats.”

Season Preview: 2nd Grade

Leading Batsmen: Jesse Budge (322 @ 20.13), Bailey Nylander (261 @ 32.63), Brendan Murray (233 @ 123.3), John Walter (225 @ 37.5)
Leading Bowlers: John Walter (43 @ 12.44), Jason Parry (32 @ 10.34), Josh Quelch (21 @ 21.29)

The 2nds had a slow start to the 2014/2015 season but with a lot of heart and determination they made the finals and ended the season in 5th spot on the log. Unfortunately they lost a close game in the elimination against Perth CC

This season:
Captain: Donavinn Fryer
Gains: A wealth of young talented players
Losses: B.Murray (University) J.Mcpee (Fremantle) NP.Henry (Brisbane)
Predicted Finish: Premiers

The 2nds will be looking to have a strong and consistent season this year with a couple of young, exciting and talented players and hopefully a successful Finals campaign.

Leading Bowlers: Josh Smith (28 @ 17.46), Adam Smith (21 @ 13.38), Scott Pearson (19 @ 27.11)

A dominant regular season by the Magees saw them finish 2nd on the ladder before crushing all before them in the finals to win the flag. Cam MacDonald led from the front with 400+ runs, supported strongly by a wealth of talented and hard-working batsmen & bowlers.
