Weekend Write-Up: Round 5

Weekend Wrap for round 5

1st grade

Wanneroo 5/225 (50) def by Rockingham-Mandurah 4/228 (45)

Wanneroo travelled down to Lark Hill for the One Day fixture, losing the toss and being sent in to bat on a warm day with a good surface on offer.

A wicket fell early, but the innings settled thanks to a superb knock from Mitchell Slattery, who anchored from start to finish. Slattery showed real patience and class, bringing up a composed and well-earned 105 off 148 balls, setting the platform for the middle order.

He combined well with Hayden Stumpers, who worked hard for a valuable 57 off 93, building a key partnership through the middle overs. Late acceleration came from Nick Maiolo, who finished unbeaten on 42 off 40, giving the Roos a competitive total of 5/225

Defending 225, Wanneroo opened up with Lachy Poulter and Jordan Slattery, both settling into good early rhythm. Poulter struck in the first over, finishing with 1/36 off 7 and setting the tone. Slattery followed up with 1/40 off his 10 overs, unlucky not to add more after two chances went down off his bowling.

The first change saw Caiden Eaton and Deon Billington enter the attack. Eaton picked up 2/53 off 9, while Billington worked hard through his 10 overs for 0/50, building pressure in the middle.

Later in the innings, Matthew Carroll was brought on to tighten things up, finishing with an economical 0/26 off 7.

2nd grade

Wanneroo 8/230 def Rockingham-Mandurah 10/144 (39.2)

The day started with Wanneroo getting sent into bat on a good wicket considering the rain around. After losing an early wicket, Dougo and Blake put on a 50-run partnership leaving us at 2/65 after dougo was dismissed for 32. Some middle order runs from the brad (38) and an exiting run a ball 45(including three bombs in a row) from Zaneo left us 6/168 after 39 overs. With a base set the boys were hoping for a big back end of the innings to propel Wanneroo to a competitive score and from a partnership between Brock and Hunts, both scoring run a ball 30s leaving Wanneroo 230 on the board at the change. A competitive score for once.

With Wanneroo up and about after posting a good score on the board they brought the energy in the field. A good catch at point off the bowling of Nathan (brevis) De Villiers brought about the first wicket. At first drinks Rockingham-Mandurah were 1/75 and looking good. Insert D-Money (Darsh) who stepped up taking three important wickets through the middle overs to put a stop to the visitor’s momentum. At 5/120 and a set batter at the crease there was still hope for rocky until Hunts steps up and gets the big wicket (as well as two others). A great run out from Brad all but capped off the day leaving Wanneroo victorious by 86 runs and for the first time this year, on the winners list.

3rd grade

Wanneroo 9/181 (45) def Rockingham-Mandurah 10/152 (42.5)

The 3s had a very early start with catching the silver lightning bus down to Rocky. After a below average uber eats maccas feed and Gordo teaching everyone a lesson on how to play ping pong the boys assembled and were ready to go. Also shoutout to Rhys for warming up in his playing pants, a polo and a jacket unzipped over the top.

Forgot who won the toss but we were batting first on what looked to be a typical rocky flatty (it was a minefield i promise). The top order failed with a few missed straight ones from Richo, Winnie and Unc Fryer, and a ‘catch’ from the keeper sent Tom (Everything I Touch Turns To Silver) Blythman packing which left us at a dire 4/27. A solid partnership between Tyler (Big Buffalo Bing Bong Rodly Shlongy) Brown and Uncle Buega steadied the ship for us. TB unfortunately departed on 26 and the middle – lower order couldn’t stay with buegs until codsta bill came out and hit a much needed 27, and then a cheeky little six from Frotham at the end to give the lads momentum. Uncle Jack secures his spot in the team with a clutch 63* and put us in a very winnable position finishing up on 9/181

Going out to bowl in typical fashion Unc Donnavin floats his way into a quick fire 2fa including the big wicket of apparently an international cricketer after a good catch by Frotham leaving them 2/12 after the first couple overs. After a solid spell from Don and Codsta and the batsman building a decent partnership, Gordo (King Shlongy) Marinovich breaks the game open with 2 handy wickets in 3 balls (genuine seeds) and then his 3rd a couple overs later. Well done gordo. Then it was time for the $1.01 Paul Lucas Favourite to come onto bowl and god this man Tombo Silver Lightning Blythman was straight into the action taking wickets for fun. In all seriousness a very patient and brilliant spell from tombo turned out to be his first Grade 5fa so congratulations mate. This saw us ultimately win again (shock) as we end up rolling them for 152. 4 on the trot for the 3s boys as we head back home next week to take on the Uni fellas.
