Here’s a wrap-up of a bit of a spirited showdown between the Wanneroo Third Grade and the Perth Third Grade at Kingsway Park — and yes, shout-out to one standout performer (and one who really didn’t bring it).
Match Summary
Wanneroo came away with the goods, showing grit, cohesion and finishing power. The conditions were tough, but they handled them much better. Perth had moments of promise but seemed a step behind in key phases — letting Wanneroo control territory, momentum and composure
Superstar of the day: Cody Billy
If you were looking for someone who not only stood up but stepped up, Cody was your man. He consistently made the smart plays: taking the right lines, supporting teammates, hitting his assignments defensively and offensively. He looked tenacious, focused and reliable — the kind of player you want when the game is on the line. In short, Cody was an absolute standout and proved beyond doubt that when opportunity knocks, he answers
On the flip side: Hayden Davey
Here’s the blunt truth: Hayden was well off his game. Missed tackles, loose decisions, poor timing — he seemed disconnected from the team’s rhythm. In a match where every effort counted, Hayden’s lack of impact stood out in a negative way. To borrow the language: he played like a flog today — showing up, but not delivering, letting chances slip and not raising the bar when the challenge demanded it.
Key take‐aways
Wanneroo’s ability to maintain pressure, to execute under fatigue and to finish their chances made the difference.
Perth’s weakness: coasted when they couldn’t afford to — and when the opposition surged, they lacked the response.
Cody Billy reinforced his value as a clutch performer; Hayden Davey gave a reminder that being present isn’t the same as being effective
4th Grade
9/175 (45) def by Wanneroo 6/176 (36.1)
On a love Saturday 25th of October, the 4s Travelled to Fletcher park to try continue the winning streak.
No surprise Liam Carroll lost the Toss and we were sent into bowl first, At the Start Rhys Walker and Fitta, were Bowling to the Left and bowling to the Right, until Rhys got one to go straight and got the First wicket to open the account. Than income the Spin twins of Redda (Josh Redman) and Gilly (Riley Gillespie) taking control of the game with 3/27 and 2/19 off their 9 overs. The lads Restricting them to 9/175 on one of WA’s Flattest Pitches it was a great effort!!
With 176 to chase down, the Roo lads had this in the bag and so we did with 9 overs to spare. The standouts were Xander with a lovely 35 and Tommy (Silver Lightnining) Blythman carrying his bat till the end with 66* continuing his great start to the season.
GG2EZ Perth, let’s continue the fine form on to Rocky next week, BOSHHH!
Colts
University 8/139 (20) def by Wanneroo 6/141 (16.2)
Round 4 saw the mighty colters against the reigning premiers, University, in the second game of the year.
Our skip tristan won the toss and decided to have a bowl (such a good boy). Cody ‘i love a beer’ billington got given the new ball and made an impact early taking a wicket, showing the uni boys how to bowl (they mustn’t of been watching). Nathan ‘dewalt’ de villiers had the other end and did not disappoint showing us his power tools and bowling a maiden leaving uni 1/1 off the first 2 overs. the boys kept bowling tight but wickets were hard to come by. tristo took the second in the ninth over for only 40 runs, with a little help for our mate at the non strikers end Harry (he didn’t want to call). only a handful of balls later harry (our new best mate) told tristan “i hate my team” before giving us a little gift, running out his skippa with a bit of first grade sub fielder magic from richo. have fun playing club cricket next week harry. wickets continued to fall as runs started to flow ending the innings 8-139. a score well below par.
A very good display with the ball all round. Nathan went for 14 off his 4, Cody took 3, tristo took 2/10 off 3 and zane got hit with 2 massive sixes to finish the innings (one was a switch hit).
The hurrikane himself opened doing what he does getting the boys off to a flyer, as per. however wynnie (15 btw) struggled at the other end, out for nothing, and the legends from uni were letting him know (bit brave when u only hit 139 if you ask me). Kane wasn’t having any of it, “dont pick on my friend” he said probably as he hit the ball to the boundary again. in at 3, in form (finally) blake ‘i hate my hair’ holly came to the crease, looking good compared to some of his knocks earlier this year. as if picking on a 15 year old wasn’t enough, uni made the silly mistake of going at kane aswell. kane looked them dead in the eyes and said “you mess with the bull, you get the horns”. COLD. and get the horns they did, smashing a few large sixes (nonchalantly). kaneo out for 60 off 38 after a handy partnership with zane, who was looking unreal by the way. a couple wickets fell bringing big bad hayden ‘don’t bowl there champ’ davey to the crease, only needed 33 for victory with plenty of overs to spare. hayden proceeded to hit 3 sixes one of which nearly putting a hole in the roof of the change rooms and killing his teammates in the process before getting out with 5 runs to spare too scared to do it himself. with that the boys got it done with 4 wickets and 4 overs in hand, putting them second on the ladder and one win away from a spot in the finals.
Premier T20
Wanneroo 10/97 (16.1) def by University 1/101 (11.5)
The Roos faced up against uni for their second t20 aiming to set themselves into a finals position. Roos were sent in to bat with Kane Pearce making his premier t20 debut opening the batting. Unfortunately, due to some very good bowling the boys were put under the pump from the start losing early wickets which stayed consistent throughout. A cameo from Deon Billington got the boys out of some trouble but wickets continued to fall. A last wicket stand between Maff Carroll and Lachy Poulter scraped to the boys to 97 with work to be done for the bowlers. Billington 29, Poulter 20*, Carrol 16.
With the ball, we started well with Poults removing Tom Murray second ball. However that was the last of it with the experience of Uni’s batting lineup shining through taking the win by 9 wickets. We look to a final t20 against Joondalup to get a win putting us in the best position to play t20 finals again this year. Poulter 1/21
A grade
A double header at home for the As this week, hosting Perth in the morning and then South Perth in the afternoon.
A strong start against Perth with Bhavi scoring 43 off 38 and Rebecca Brooker with 59 off 58 saw the team post a competitive total of 4/132 off their 20 overs. Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to be enough with Perth reaching 3/133 with just 4 balls to spare.
Game 2 saw the Roos etch out a respectable 9/120 off their 20 overs. Despite some tight bowling across board, the As went down again with 4 balls to spare with South Perth ending on 3/121.
