2017-18 Senior Coaching Staff Announced

Wanneroo DCC is proud to present the Senior Coaching Staff for the 2017-18 season:

Head Coach: Joel Charles

A 200 + Game Wanneroo DCC legend with 3 – A grade Premierships to his name, all 3 that the club has won! Also Captained the 2011-12 Premiership. Joel comes back to us as head coach after 3 years away with work commitments, a very well respected life member and pillar of our great cricket club. We are all excited to see how Joel and his team of coaches go this season implementing their ideas and structures to help move the club forward towards our next great triumph!

Assistant Coach: Brendan Danaher
An experienced coach and great leader throughout his time in charge of the WDCC junior program, an uncanny ability to both listen and guide young cricketers has been some of his best trademarks. Brendon plied his junior career at WDCC in the 90’s before taking a 15 year hiatus then returning and being an integral part of the WDCC junior program and coaching our ever successful U15 & U17 teams. Due to his vast experience with the Juniors, Joel has bought Brendon in as Assistant Coach to not just integrate the juniors into the senior program but also support Joel in senior development.

Fitness Coach: Sean King
Sean King has been the Assistant Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach at Wanneroo for 9 years. King was an inaugural squad member of the West Coast Eagles, and was a “ball magnet” for the West Perth Falcons. His discipline and hard-working attitude earns him the highest of respect from everyone at the club.

Batting Coach: HD Ackerman
HD had a wonderful First Class career that spanned 16 years & 2 countries, 14625 runs @ 43.65, 40 centuries and a top score of 309*. Need we say anymore of his cricket acumen! HD also played 4 Tests for his native South Africa between 1998 and 2001 with a top score of 57. After leaving the UK in 2009 HD moved back to South Africa and worked in the media before deciding he wanted a sea change and a permanent move to Australia ensued in late 2016. HD is Head of Sport at the prestigious Guildford Grammar School, as well as recently achieving his Level 3 ticket in coaching with Cricket Australia in June in Brisbane. It is our honour to have someone of HD’s experience, standing and ability at WDCC in 2017-18, Welcome HD!

Bowling Coach: Mitchell Johnson
There’s not much we can say that people don’t already know about this man. A once in a generation cricketer, a man who has just about won everything that can be won in the professional cricket world, but more importantly, he is our Mitch at WDCC and has been for coming up 10 years since moving from Queensland. Mitch will be working with our young bowling group this season and imparting his extensive knowledge to all in sundry, we are very spoilt and honoured to have Mitch on board this season helping our great club!
