Our Female B Grade team have had an amazing first season.
Premierships are hard to come by and to win a Female B Grade flag at our first attempt is something I’m sure that we will all remember for a long time – not to mention the sheer joy of putting the first two female cricket flags on the wall at Wanneroo on the same day, with the Youth League winning alongside the B Grade.
Seasons like this don’t happen without a lot of hard work, and in this case, that work began some time ago…
Thanks to Greg Williams, Andy Stewart and Keith Atkinson for their hard work in establishing the Female Cricket Program at WDCC and laying the foundations for the success we have enjoyed this season. The work of those that pioneered female cricket at WDCC is remembered and deeply respected.
To our Coaches working in the Senior Female Cricket Program – Shenae and Slats (supported by Luke and Toby too) – thank you for your dedication and commitment to making this season work! Shenae we love that you have joined us – and what a season you have had as a player and a coach! And Slats, your wise words and gentle guidance were just what we needed. We could not have asked for the players to be better prepared for the contest. You can both be very proud of the team you have built – the way they go about their cricket and the continuing development of The Wanneroo Way is a testament to the way that you have guided and shaped our players.
To our Team Manager – Amanda – thank you so much. You’ve left no stone unturned in terms of getting everyone where they needed to be, when they needed to be there. We couldn’t ask for better support!
To our Club Committee – including David, Shane and Darrell on the Exec, Michael and Vinnie on the Grounds, and Kevin and Dave with all things Uniform and Clubrooms – thank you for supporting the growth of female cricket at WDCC. I know you are all very aware of just how good this season has been for our Club.
Most of all to our amazing community of players, parents, families, friends and supporters. To see you pull together and overcome the challenges of this season has been incredible. We want to recognise the efforts of our first-year Captain, Emma – you’ve stepped into the role in style and you have led from the front in a quiet yet determined manner, ably assisted by your Vice-Captain, Sarah. Thank you both for all that you have done to make this season such a good one!
And a special acknowledgement to the players who have joined us from Community Cricket and to the players from the Youth League who have stepped up into B Grade, joining with our home grown talent that graduated from the Youth League last season – what a team you have made!! We love your commitment, sacrifice and your Club-first approach that has brought us great joy this season and our first Senior women’s cricket flag!!
