Weekend Wrap vs. South Perth

Rob “Cho” Richards starred for the Roos as the WDCC Seniors won three from four. The 17s & 15s went 10-50 against South Perth.

1st Grade

Banished to the field in 39 degree heat, Chris “Jesus Beard” Quelch and Jack “Samantha” Cattrall combined to quickly reduce the hosts to 2/17. South Perth’s David Cleary (75) and Darius D’Silva (93) combined for a 124 run partnership before Cattrall (3/33) and Caiden “Slug” Eaton (2/33) clawed the Roos back into the game. South Perth finished with 7/239 off their 50 overs.

In reply, spectators and randoms walking past on their way to the zoo were treated to a wonderful innings from Rob “Skinny Cho” Richards. Richards scored 113 from 139 balls, including two 70+ partnerships with Haydn “Devon” Slodecki (28) and Kyle “Funkytown” Millar (39*).  Millar & Travis “Tuberculosis” Birt (24*) drove home the victory by six wickets and 10 balls remaining.

2nd Grade

Batting first at Kingsway in 49 degree heat, openers Callum “Douggo” Douglas (34) and Riley “Buddy” Holly (32) put on 59 for the first wicket, before Chad “THE CHAD!” Hitchcock put on a batting clinic. The Chad finished on 74 not out off just 64 balls, supported by Graeme “Gra-Gra” Atkinson who was run out for 31 after his calf exploded mid-pitch.  The Magoos set a competitive target of 241.

Despite a gritty 72 from Nick Mitchell, South Perth struggled against an extremely strong bowling line-up, led by Matt “Double-Z” Dzodzos (3/36), Deon “Billy D. Williams” Billington (3/20) and Donnie “Sprained Beard” Fryer (2/30). The Roos were victorious by 51 runs, dismissing South Perth for 190.

3rd Grade

Batting first in 59 degree heat in South Perth, Mitch “Slatts” Slattery (39) and Jim “The Pirate” Dicarlo (61) combined for a 114 opening partnership.  Matt “Handbag” Purcell (47*) and Andrew “Also Slatts” Slattery (35*) closed out the innings in style as the Roos posted 4/228 off their 45 overs.

In reply, South Perth slumped to 4/30 and despite some middle order rallying could never really recover. Wickets were shared between Jordan “Also Slatts” Slattery (3/37), Tyler” Thong” Ong (2/24), Josh “POTUS” Quelch (2/26) and John “3rd Change” Walter (2/16). South Perth were dismissed for 149.

4th Grade

Banished to the field in 69 degree heat, the Al Gores trucked hard with the ball to restrict South Perth to 9/215 off 45 overs. Liam “KP” Carroll starred with 3/31, supported by Lachie “LP” Poulter (2/37) and Jared “J-Maunds” Maunder (2/44).

In reply, the young Roos got a lot of starts but couldn’t build and eventually reached their 45 overs with 9/161 on the board, 54 runs short of the target. Nich “Sandwich” Santich top scored with 49.

17s

In a T20 fixture at Richardson Park, our 17s batted first and posted a respectable 120, with Tim “Marcus” Harris top scoring with 36.

Unfortunately for our young Roos, Tyler McMiles (62 off 40) and Tom Kingsley (45 off 39) went ballistic and South Perth reached the target with 9 wickets in hand and 4.2 overs remaining.

15s

Sent in to bat, our 15s lost an early wicket before Nick “Multigrain” Whitbread (31 off 31) and Jack “Beanstalk” Maraldo (63 off 49) combined to lead their team to 6/130 off their 20 overs.

South Perth lost early wickets in reply, and just when a middle-order resurgence seemed on the cards, Keegan “KK” Klumper tore the heart out of the opponents with 3/25 off 4 overs. South Perth finished with 6/111, a deficit of 19. Maths!
