Weekend wrap for our round 2 clash against Claremont-Nedlands.

Claremont-Nedlands 1/273 (50) def Wanneroo 10/164 (45.2)
A tough day at the office for the Roos as we came up against a well-drilled Claremont-Nedlands side who put on a clinical display at Kingsway.
Claremont won the toss and batted first, piling on a massive 1/273 from their 50 overs. The lone wicket came from skipper Caiden Eaton, who removed Lochie Hardy after he’d already done serious damage with a brutal 151 off 145 balls, including 11 boundaries and 9 sixes. He and Jacob Whiteaker (97* off 145) combined for a dominant opening stand that left us with little to celebrate in the field. Despite some economical spells — particularly from Matt Carroll (10-0-33-0) and Lachy Poulter (10-2-46-0) — chances were few and far between.
With the bat, our reply began with some promise. Braiden Hudson (31) and Aryan Varsani (30) looked to build a foundation, but regular wickets stunted any real momentum. J Edmondstone did most of the damage for Claremont with 4 wickets and a run out, halting any chance of a late fightback.
The Roos were eventually bowled out for 164 in the 46th over, falling short by 109 runs.
Plenty to reflect on from this one — the challenge now is to regroup, train hard, and bounce back stronger next round. Onwards and upwards

Claremont Nedlands 9/211 (50) def Wanneroo 10/130 (37)
Brad continues on from last year and looses the toss letting us bowl first, Thomas walker provides us with our first treat of the morning followed by Liam hunter giving us a great spot, welcome Darsh to 2s as he bowls 2 seeds of first deliveries to claim his first. Couple of Mahbo chest bumps and dougo concrete hands later and we had them for 211. Hunts with 3 HD horse man with 2 darsh with 2 and Tommy with 1.
Then came the batting. Mahbo walked early, Blake backed up his chat in the field and Kane followed similar. Dougo played around the ball well but unfortunately found a thick edge, boner made it look easy with a courageous 50 knock batting throughout, however the rest followed a similar story, till darsh came on and put on a clinic on, ended up all out for 130,
Tough game, things didnt go our way, better luck next week

As the trees began their 2025/26 campaign for the second time, they were off to a great start after the beuglar lost the toss again..
What entailed was some interesting cricket to say the least. Henneberry striking early before receding to an eight step run up for the remainder of his opening spell and somehow bowling faster than previously. After early wickets kingsway two flattened out and became a paradise for batting.
Enter Donnavin Fryer, bowling into the short boundary and giving the set Claremont batters some hitting practice over the 45 metre boundary. Perhaps a tactic to allow more runs to be scored by donny in the second innings? Four time Paul Lucas inbound? The strong batting continued with Claremont making 231 after 45 overs a very strong score, so we thought.
Enter Quinny (44 off 27)and Wynnie (66 off 54), with some serious striking to leave us 1-100 after just 10 overs. This aggressive batting swung the odds back in our favour and we could continue to cruise to the target of 232. This was not the case as D Fryer continued this momentum with 55* off 60 balls and 30 odds (Tyler brown 13, Darcy Forssman 19, Jack McDonald 10*) from the rest of the middle order saw us cruise to the total in only 31 overs. A strong batting performance by our threes and onto Joondalup next week.

Wanneroo 10/175 (31.4) def Claremont-Nedlands 10/171 (44.5)
Round 2 saw the bad boys of forth grade facing up against “a bunch of club cricketers”, according to skipper Carroll in Claremont-Nedlands 4th grade side at melvista, in the first game of the year.
Liam won the toss and decided to have a bat, at the top of the order xander ‘pickle’ glamuzina hit a very sensible, i mean VERY sensible 34 off 47 (he blocked out 5 free hits). His mate at the other end Kai ‘go hard or go home’ Richards went home for 3 caught behind driving on the up (sorry charlesy). this bought ex first-grader matt ‘super unc’ fawcett to the crease back from his 8 year hamstring injury. the pressure of forth grade must’ve got to the big fella as he got a second ball duck. A good looking 10 from tom ‘silver’ blythman and a very ugly run out from oscar ‘chaddy’ chadwick saw kaleb and his edge to the middle hitting his first runs for the club before getting out for 8. Ben ‘i love round 1’ jones started his innings uncharacteristically as he got off to a mature start. the club cricketers must’ve also been confused about who this changed man was, as the keeper and square leg tried for kids underneath a high ball from ben, dropping what should’ve been an easy catch. Rhys ‘ceebs bowling pace’ walker came to the crease and hit a massive bomb before deciding he was done for the day, pretending he had a sore side. stand in skip ‘frothy rothy’ had quite an unmemorable innings hitting 10. cam ‘cheesey’ houghton wasn’t happy with his 1 off 6 letting everyone know his displeasure with himself as he walked off. Liam ‘hide myself at 11’ carroll hung around with ben for a little while before deciding 175 was enough, chipping one to the only man in the deep and leaving ben stranded not out on 52.
the house cat carroll and cheese touch greg heffley hourton opened with the ball and started strong. oh what a feeling early wickets are, big matty fawcett was loving it a bit too much as he did a possible career ending grade 1 calf tear in a toyota esc celebration. devastating news for the old fella. what a career, take a bow.. wickets fell through the middle leaving claremont 7-102. skip made the costly mistake of bringing himself on to bowl searching for junk time wickets which he struggled to find. this allowing them back in the game. 3 wickets required and 20 runs in hand, a masterclass of a bowling partnership between kai and wannabe iceman tom blythman took the three crucial wickets in dramatic fashion getting the job done in the final over with 4 runs to spare.
cheese took 1, aswell as frothy rothy. but the stars of the innings were mr tiger balm himself liam carroll and iceman silver lightning blythman taking 4 a piece.
Colts
Willetton 4/161 (20) def Wanneroo 9/155 (20)
Our colts campaign kicked off against Willeton at Kingsway. After losing the toss and being put in the field, the boys were optimistic that we could bowl them out for a low score. Unfortunately we didn’t get off to the start we wanted, getting hit around a bit in the powerplay. Maffalar11 then came on and broke the opening partnership. From here we defended well in the field, taking a few regular wickets to halt momentum. It was a good fight back from the boys keeping willeton to 161.
In the chase we were hoping to get off to a flyer, and the inevitable HurriKane made sure we did. Kane was loving the short boundary as he whacked his way to 50 off about 25 rocks. The skipper Trystan then came to the crease and they built a good partnership. After we lost Kane, Trystan picked up the scoring rate and hit his way to 52. The game was going down to the wire and in the last over Hayden Davey walks out and hits 2 horns in a row, unfortunately one of them was overturned in a controversial decision. The boys just fell short by 6 runs in an improving performance for us. We go again in 2 weeks!

T20 ROUND 1 | POULTER LIGHTS UP KINGSWAY
Kingsway turned electric as Wanneroo kicked off their T20 season in dramatic fashion — chasing down Willetton’s 4/125 with a six over cover on the first ball of the final over
It was Lachlan Poulter who set the tone early, producing a dream opening spell that had Willetton in all sorts. On a hat-trick in just the second over, Poults finished with sensational figures of 2/21 off 4, building pressure that never really lifted. Thomas Walker (1/24) and Caiden Eaton (1/28) kept things tight through the middle as the Roos restricted the Dragons to a modest total.
Nick Maiolo (40 off 29) got the chase flying before a few wobbles through the middle overs made it anyone’s game. Aryan Varsani (41 off 30)* kept his composure to see the side home — the job finished in classic Kingsway style with that six over cover to seal it.
That’s now two T20 wins in a row over Willetton, with Poults’ fiery start and a calm finish giving the Roos the perfect opening statement for the season
“Hat-trick ball still missing somewhere at Kingsway,” one teammate was heard saying
