3rd Grade

Wanneroo 3/196 defeated South Perth 8/195

Round 4 kicked off with South Perth winning the toss and having a bat, on which looked a very flat wicket!

Cody and the Pesh opened the bowling, both bowling quite tight for a such a flat wicket! Cody ended up with one and Pesh with 2 wickets for the game!

Walter’s and Georgy both came on after that and both took wickets! But the pick of the bowlers on the day was Shaz picking up 3/ 27 off his 9 overs!

South Perth ended up at 8/195 off their 45. Which we felt was under par on that wicket! But also felt it could have been much less if we didn’t manage to drop 7 catches over the innings!!

Then we went out to bat we got off to a great start! Fingers Mahbo looked like he was going to go big again! Until he played a pretty yuk slog across the line which too on his stumps! Sam Williams made a very solid 29, then king managed to hit a leg stump half volley straight to square leg! But lucky for us Kane Pearce really settled the ship and made a quick and dominant 84 not out and the captain jack MacDonald, played a very important 2nd fiddle role and saw us home getting 35 not out!

A good win for the 3s! We move onto next week to hopefully give Perth a lesson as well!!

4th Grade

Wanneroo 7/143 (26) def South Perth 10/142 (40.5)

It was a nice sunny day, and the weather was perfect for cricket. Then out of nowhere a freak mini tornado tore through the middle of Kingsway Oval lifting 2 gazebos 20 metres into the air spiralling them around before bee-lining for the smallest man on the ground which happened to be Xander. While others fled running for their lives, Xander’s duck and cover method did nothing to avoid getting hit in the head, face and back leaving him slightly disfigured and kept him off the ground for the first 5 overs.

South Perth won the toss and elected to bat on a stock standard Kingsway 2 pitch. The skipper Liam opened the bowling, and Jayden accompanied him at the other end. Liam got one early in the 3rd over and then Jayden chipped in with a wicket the next over. South Perth was struggling at 2-27 off their first 10 overs against a strong opening spell by Liam and Jayden. Gordo came on to bowl and got a wicket first ball with our fill in keeper Ben Jones taking a tough catch down leg side to dismiss their number 3 batsmen. In came their captain and steadied the innings with 68 off 96. However, we managed to take wickets around him and bowled South Perth out for 142 in the 41st over. Wickets were shared around with Liam, Jayden, Gordo and Fitzy each taking 2 wickets and 1 from Sham.

Xander and Kai opened the batting and got off to a very quick start with Kai punishing anything loose from the opening bowlers. Xander was the first to depart leaving the score at 1/47 off the first 8 overs. Tyler joined Kai at the crease and took the score to 70 before Kai was given out LBW shortly after making his 50. He made 51 off 30 balls including nine 4s and a 6. Farrant ran into partner Tyler before being run out cheaply for 5. Gordo chipped in with 18 and after Tyler was stumped for 25 and Captain Carroll noodled a long hop to backward square for a second ball duck, we looked shakey at 6/127. Ben Jones starred with a quick fire 26 off 22 with two 6s but got out with 2 runs needed to win. Jayden hit the winning runs with a reverse sweep.

Another grinding win for 4th grade.

Colts

Wanneroo 7/134 (20) def by Perth 3/137 (18.5)

After a disappointing first game to the colts’ campaign, spirits were high to turns things around at Fletcher Park against Perth. Skipper Blake Holly won the toss and sent us into bat.

A very strong couple overs in the power play left Wanneroo 0/37, with Ben Jones and Kane Pearce flying with a big score in sights. Ben Jones fell shortly after to a sceptical full toss. However, Kane Pearce continued to punish Perth’s bowling attack bringing 50 up in quick fashion, leaving the Roos at 2/82 at the 10 over mark. Unfortunately, persistent wickets throughout the last 10 overs left the boys unable to capitalise on the strong foundation. However, a last ball bomb from Nathan De Villiers left optimism in defending our total of 134 on what seemed to be a high scoring wicket.

A dream start to our bowling innings with a first ball wicket from Cody Billington followed by a maiden filled the boys with hope. Unfortunately, a six hit into the houses in the second over was foreshadowing of the rest of the innings with the methodical Perth team easing their way to the win, with an over and 7 wickets to spare.

Premier T20

Wanneroo 10/117 (20) def by Perth 5/118 (18.2)

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon 11 blokes got prepped for some t20 cricket, we won the toss and chose to bat. We played a great warm up soccer game. (Brad Marlborough was Messi for the game) and then got prepped to bat against a strong bowling lineup of Perth. We didn’t start great but after some good batting from Aryan and stumpy we were doing well but lost more wickets in the power surge leaving us 7 for 60 with 8 to go. George addy and Caiden stepped up to the table and got us to a defendable target of 118. Special mention to George hitting sixes for fun. We go into bowl defending a low total, but we all knew we could win if we bowled our best, Lachy Poulter and Maff Carrol started us off very well getting wells out early then George addy steps up to bowl and gets the wicket of fanning. We were on a roll getting wickets and we had loads of momentum then unfortunately we couldn’t get the job done but we bowled exceptional and will be better for it for this week’s game
