Weekend Wrap

To quote Meatloaf: “Two out of Three aint Bad”. So it was for the Roos in their semi-finals over the weekend with 3rd Grade and 17s progressing to the Preliminary Final, whilst 2nd Grade’s campaign was ended.

2nd Grade were rolled for just 45, and despite throwing everything they could at Willetton in response they were unable to overcome the 1st innings deficit and achieve the elusive “Reverse Outright”. John Walter was the pick of the bowlers with 4/23.

3rd Grade triumphed over Bayswater-Morley after bowling the Bears out for 170 and achieving the target with 5 wickets in hand. Wickets were shared, but the highlight of the bowling innings was Captain Andrew Slattery activating “Roo Time!”, which saw the Bears lose 5 wickets for just 21 runs. In reply, Damon Parker (32) made a positive start, Allan Hall (53) saw out the first day, before Connor Smith (42) and Andrew Slattery (26*) took control and guided the Roos to victory. Greg Maher enjoyed a barbecue, which may or may not have been Hally’s fault. Baysie had a crack in the 2nd innings but our Roos top order was steadfast.

Our 17s showed guts and determination chasing down a tricky total of 191 set by Perth CC. Callum Douglas (57), Ben Doolan (52), Michael Kelsey (43) and Connor Thorn (25) did the business.
