Melville 96 (Stillitano 6/12, Jones 2/16) def. by Wanneroo 8/97 (Jesani 56*)
The Roos traveled to Melville for a game against the league leaders. All that brain power expended at the Quiz Night didn’t seem to affect our bowling, which was on point this match.
Melville got away ok and had 20 on the board before Emilie (1/19) collected the first wicket. Buckets got a quick two fa and then Kristin (2/16) impacted the game with a great run out followed by a stumping off her bowling by the quick hands of Shayna and another wicket as well, continuing her good season.
Buckets then took the next four wickets to round out an awesome day with the ball. Her 6/12 off almost 8 overs was a career best performance in all forms of the game – and you couldn’t find a more humble champion! Melville all out 96.
The Roos run chase was an intense affair. A shaky start saw us slip to 2/17, before a consolidating partnership between Shayna and Sarah, which got us to the halfway mark three down.
However, wickets at every 10-15 runs thereafter got a few nerves on edge. With bulk overs in hand we just needed someone to stick with Shayna, who was going great guns. At eight wickets down, Bree delivered for us, with the Roos notching a fantastic win away from home. Congratulations to Shayna on a fantastic innings of 56*, including 7 fours, which was a study of discipline and concentration!
Female Youth League
Rockingham-Mandurah 87 (Allen 3/9, Potgieter 2/9, Haddrill 2/13, Williamson 2/22) def. by Wanneroo 188 (Byrne 70, Fisher 37)
Early doors at houses across the northern suburbs for our second trek to Lark Park for the season, where conditions were best described as hot and windy. Talia had no hesitation in winning the toss and batting.
A shaky start saw the Roos at 3/17. Chloe (22) and Soph then set about building a solid 68 run partnership, which saw us to 4/85. Another good stand of 53 for the 7th wicket also bumped the score, with Soph dismissed for a well made 70 that included 12 boundaries – congrats on your first 50! Myla (37 off 44) continued on, looking settled but taking the game on at the same time – awesome to see and another PB at this level! In an entertaining finish to the innings, the Roos showed that fierce spirit they are becoming known for, with Aymie and Emmersyn building a 20 run tenth wicket stand to see us finish at 188 in a very well paced performance.
As she so often does, Aymie got us on the board early with a nice catch by Tegan. Fantastic to see Abbster call for the helmet in the third over and get up to the stumps to really apply the pressure to the batters.
Wickets 2 through 5 fell to four different bowlers – how good! Talia, Tegan, Layla and Steffi collected dismissals through this period and all of a sudden Rocky were 5/45. The Skipper kept the bowling changes coming and for the second match in a row, the Roos used eight bowlers – such awesome depth! Great economy across the field with Spud, Emmersyn and Talia particularly hard to score from. Wickets well and truly shared around with Talia (3/9) and Pottsy (2/9) turning in the best figures.
Fielding again a feature for this Roos outfit, with seven well-made catches and some excellent ground fielding, diving and desperate boundary saves! Love watching you go about it!!
Female Under 14s Carnival
Game 1: Midland-Guildford 7/72 (Babic 3/6, Wallis 2/15) def by Wanneroo 4/73 (Brooker 26)
Game 2: Wanneroo 7/85 def. by Melville 3/86
In their last official matches for the season, the Under 14s completed their fourth and final Carnival weekend at Prendiville.
Once again, it was a happy Roos outfit that took the field, eager to put into practice the things they’ve been working on at training and in Community cricket.
In the first game against Midland, the girls bowled tight lines to restrict the score to 7/72 from 20 overs. Benita, Addy and Chelsea were among the wickets, with Chelsea setting a new PB at this level with 3/6. In a well managed run chase, the Roos passed the score in the 19th over, four wickets down. Sarah batted really well for her 26 and shared a match winning partnership with Emma.
Game 2 against Melville saw the Roos bat first to build a total of 7/85. This match it was Sarah and Addy who built the best partnership. Although the girls worked hard with the ball, Melville passed the score with a few overs in hand, but not before Chelsea and Benita had each bagged another wicket.
Next season, the 14s move to a competition with 7 rounds and finals, which is a great sign of a developing league for this age group.
