Second Grade

Wanneroo 244 (B Holly 50, Fryer 40, Smith 37, Forssman 28, Bonner 27, McGhie 27) def. Perth 242 (Forssman 5/62, Smith 2/39, Fryer 2/41)

The boys arrived at Kingsway with a positive attitude determined to be in a strong position after Day 1. A win will put us comfortably in the top 2. The captain Adam Smith started the day brilliantly, winning the toss and electing to bat on an absolute flatty at Kingsway. The batting innings began with a hiccup with Mitchell Slattery getting an absolute peach, this brought Blake Holly and Jacob Bonner together. Black and Bonn weathered some pretty good bowling putting on 46 runs in that partnership. Bonner was then dismissed for a well-made 29; wickets continued to fall at regular intervals however, the youngster Blake Holly batted beautifully making 50(114). A few starts from some batters helped the roos get in a strong position for a big score however capitalising on those starts was the issue that led to the collapse to 9/200. The captain Adam Smith came together with the No. 11 batter Sharad Jessani hoping to put up a partnership that took us to a competitive score on that wicket. Shaz had the job of holding up one end and the captain played a captain’s knock finishing on 37(80) helping his team reach a competitive total of 244. The team had mixed feelings after Day 1 knowing that we could have breached 300 but were backing our strong bowling attack to keep Perth under 244.

Day 2 Having had an injury to our inform batter Blake Holly during the week a fielding position opened up and H Cavanagh gave his time and effort for us in the field. Donnavin Fryer and skip started proceedings and made early in roads which halted Perths chase of 245 runs to win. Darcy Forssman came on and made an immediate impact on the game picking up wickets and breaking crucial partnerships. Some strong resilience shown by the Perth lower order which brought the game back on level terms. It was anyones game with 10 overs to go 3 wickets in hand and around 35 runs to get. Darcy showed his class bowling in the death and picking the last couple of wickets ensuring we won by by just 2 runs. Darcy ended up with outstanding figures 5/62 from his 16.3 overs. The roos head into the last game of the home and away season sitting in top 2 position. Bring on Fremantle.

Third Grade

Perth 161 (T Jessani 4/26, Walter 3/18, Slattery 2/31) def. by Wanneroo 8/309 (Mcdonald 83, C Billington 78, Kelsey 53)

The threes made the trip out to Fletcher knowing full well that a win would secure their spot in the finals. Batting first, the Roos top order lost a couple of early wickets on a tricky pitch. Michael “I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22” Kelsey steadied the ship, making a fluent 53 to leave the Roos at 4-90. With the game evenly placed, Jack “Luka Modric” McDonald and Cody “can’t get you out of my head” Billington put on a hundred run partnership, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground on their way to 83 and 78 respectively. The bowlers chipped in towards the end of the innings, leaving the Roos with a very good score of 8-309 at the end of the first day.

The opening bowlers started off the day well with Jordan “double teapot” Slattery picking up an early wicket. The Roos bowlers all bowled well to keep the pressure on the Perth batters, with that pressure resulting in consistent wickets throughout the day. John “the veteran” Walter wound back the clock in his spell to pick up 3 wickets before Taz “we want an AFL team” Jessani cleaned up the tail to claim 4 wickets. Perth bowled out for 161 to see the Roos claim another win and secure their finals spot with one round left to play.

Fourth Grade

Wanneroo 125 (Pearce 45, Maraldo 33) and 7/109 (Pearce 27) def. Perth 10/71 (O Brown 5/19, Quelch 5/25)

The al gores returned to Kingsway for the last 2-dayer of the season needing a win to edge is closer to locking in a finals berth. we welcomed back skipper Liam who immediately got the ball rolling by winning the toss on what looked to be a very good Kingsway wicket.

Batting first we were unable to get things going our way and struggled to get a partnership going. J-mar shockingly decided that attack was the best form of defence as he got to 33 in quick time before being run out by Kane Pearce who decided that he’d like to spend his lunch break picking splinters out of his rear end. we got to the lunch break 5 down for about 70. After lunch Kane and Tippa were able to consolidate as they put on 53 for the 6th wicket. when Tippa departed, the rest followed in quick succession as we were bowled out just before tea for 125, Kane Pearce the pick of the batsmen top scoring with 45.

with 5 overs to bowl before tea, Owen brown got the early breakthrough we needed as we walked to tea, Perth 1-0. following tea it was all roos for the first half hour as Josh Quelch and OB picked up where they left off and had Perth in all sorts at 4-10. Perth steadied and looked well in control and put on another 47 before OB struck with a sharp caught and bowled and Q followed a couple overs later with the most dead LBW you’ll see for a long time. We ended day 1 with Perth at 6-60, roos 65 ahead.

We kicked off day 2 right where we left off taking the required 4 wickets for 11 runs in just 35 minutes. Owen brown and Josh Quelch taking the P 1 double 5 both walking off with 5fa’s and a roos win all but surely in the bag.

all that was left to do was survive the rest of the day which were able to achieve getting to the tea break 6 down about 150 ahead thanks to Kane Pearce once again top scoring with 27. game over at tea? think not as Perth’s captain hates fun and thought he’d try and spend the rest of his day in the field. after 20 minutes of nothing but Liam kicking one, it took for Dougo to start picking up the cones around the boundary for the Perth captain to pack things up.

An average first innings batting display backed up by probably the best bowling display we’ve produced all year locking the 4s in for finals thanks to results.

Female B Grade 40 Over

Rockingham-Mandurah 62 (Giandzi 4/3, Stillitano 2/10) def by Wanneroo 1/63 (Crafford 34*)

Away to Rocky, our Female B Grade also were on song with the ball, rolling the home side for 62.

Wickets fell steadily during the innings, and all six Roo bowlers collected at least one pole. Accuracy was super good, with eight of the dismissals being clean bowled. Best figures went to Buckets (2/10) and Breanna, who turned in a career best performance with 4/3 in a devastating two and a half over spell. Side note – great to see another stumping by S.Jesani!!

The Roos lost one wicket in the chase, with Tene (34*) and Shayna (20*) running the total down in just 9 overs, resulting in an early finish.

Very clinical performance which keeps the Roos in the top 2 with 2 to play.

Female U17 40 Over

Wanneroo 6/50 def Melville 49 (Bartholomew 3/7, Quinn-Schofield 2/11)

It was Wanneroo v Melville in a battle of 2 vs 3 at Kingsway on Sunday, on a day that saw 16 wickets fall for the less 100.

Bowling first, the Roos bowled superbly and fielded well to have Melville all out for 49. Once again showing their bowling depth, the home side rolled through seven different bowlers, with Chloe returning the best figures of 3/7, but all bowlers hitting good areas. Layla (2/11) bowled with great control while Aymie, Emmersyn and Tegan also got wickets. We saw some excellent catches with Womby gloving one at her ankles, Myla bagging a beauty on the boundary and Soph adding some after the fact acrobatics, while Emmersyn’s run out was an absolute cracker! Great way to support your bowlers.

The Roos made hard work of the run chase, losing six wickets. It was fantastic to see Chops settle into the opening role and play a long hand, while Tegan turned her natural instincts with the bat into intense focus in a long partnership with Womby that reflected the team’s growing awareness that there’s no need to panic when overs are in hand. Crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when Myla cracked a four to level the scores, with the winning run found not long after.

U/17 Male

Perth 6/209 (Cavanagh 2/37) def. Wanneroo 9/201 (Marinovich 59*, Walker 45)

Week 1

Wanneroo won the toss, chose to bowl.

Catches win matches as the old saying goes, and well didn’t quite pay off this round but 4 catches including 3 very good looking efforts by Ben in slips, a great C&B by Cavs and Rhys chasing down a high ball over his shoulder in the deep.

Week 2

Run chase looked in deep deep trouble early on with a couple having difficulty finding runs and a couple of quick wickets. Gordo came to the crease and started to steady the ship with his 59 coming off 66 balls. A lot of good running as only 24 runs from boundaries. Rhys had a good crack at reeling the score back with some big hits and was unfortunate not to get hold of 1 and getting caught on the boundary.  Special mention to H Davey for coming in and a quick 14 from 9 to try keep the momentum going. Oh, special mention to Taz for his not out 😉
