Second Grade

Subiaco Floreat 4-206 (Deckert 2/52) def.  Wanneroo 205 (Forssman 65, Marlborough 56)

Our newly appointed skipper Brad won his first toss and elected to bat on what looked like a beautiful wicket with an enormous 82 meter boundary to one side as measured by our biggest supporter Quinny.

Mahbo started off the day with 2 glorious cover drives before snicking off in the 3rd over. This brought Kelso to the crease how dispatched the opening bowler for six over cow before two balls later creaming one straight back to the bowler. In Kelso’s words he hit it better than his six. The fall of Kelso brought our skipper to the crease, along with mitch settled the tempo and began to construct our innings until mitch edged off for 22. Darcy came to the crease and played well alongside Brad. Skip brought up a well played 50 before getting out the most Brad way by trying to take a dirty half tracker from a spinner over the 82m boundary falling just short and landing in a guys lap ending with 56. Darc continued to push the tempo as wickets fell around him ending with a very well played 65, he was well supported by a nice 21 run cameofrom Cody pushing our total to 205.

Liam and Owen opened the bowling, with Liam delivering a seed to send the bails 50m in the 2nd over. Subi’s opener (who normally bats 7 in 3s) decided he couldn’t miss hit one until he skied one off Cody which took a diving catch from liam to dismiss him. Mahbo took two catches one straight after a 100m run to fetch a ball off the hill which he wasn’t too happy about. Subi chased down to total in the 34th over.

Third Grade

Wanneroo 7-220 (Walker 60*, Farrant 50) def. Subiaco Floreat 8-216 (Marinovich 2/27, Jessani 2/35))

The boys strolled into Kingsway 2 after the chrissy break to probably our most important game this season being a top of the table clash against Subi Floreat A lost toss from Jack meant that we were sent in to bat first, with a depthy batting lineup we were not complaining. Sam (7 day England trip) Williams got us off to a slower but decent start but most of our top order couldn’t really get an innings started. But this guy Kealey (Absolute Warrior) Farrant made one of the more tough and gritty half centuries after getting his finger blown off by deciding to punch a beamer. With one hand for a period of time Kealey importantly bit his tongue and stuck through and set a somewhat respectable platform for the extended lower order to play with. After making 50 and out, it was time for one of the more unexpected 77 run partnerships between Tom (Permission to lap) Walker and John (Unc) Walter. Whacking them to all parts with reverse sweeps and some smart batting, Tom got to raise the bat for the first time in Wanneroo colours and ended on a really important 60* (67) and Walts went extremely well with him with an also important 32* (33).

Heading into the innings break 7/220, the lads were confident we could get it done. To say the least, Subi got off to an absolute flyer. A mixture of good batting and subpar bowling we definitely felt the pressure going into the first drinks break 1/68. we looked to improve in the second session but get again the opener stuck in and to his credit batted really well and yet again our plans as bowlers needed to be changed if we were any chance of winning this game. Heading into the final drinks break where Shaz broke through for the second time, Subi were 2/149, only needing 71 runs with wickets in hand. Jack got us together and raised his voice for the first time ever and that’s exactly what we needed to lock in and start putting the pressure back on them. Tommy Walks got the first scalp after drinks with an absolute seed which got the boys up and about, then Donny (169) Fryer really stood up and showed his class by finishing out his spell with a maiden or 2 and a timely wicket. With Donny and Tom bowling out, Jack called upon Walts and Jordan (Ice Man) Marinovich to bowl the final 5 overs of the game. With some really tight bowling and a perfect field, wickets started to fall with Gordo taking 2 in 3 balls including the opener who made a really impressive 92. It got to the last over where Subi needed 12 to win, but with all the class in the world Unc Walter bowled an over only going for 7 which capped off a nearly perfect final 15 overs from the 3s lads.

Fourth Grade

Subiaco Floreat 5-165 (T Brown 1/25)) def. Wanneroo 163 (O Hudson 48*)

Subiaco Floreat won the toss and elected to bowl sending Wanneroo into bat first. Xander Glamuzina and Noah Ferguson opened the batting and got off to an alright start. Xander nicked off early in the 4th over which led Tyler Brown to the crease. Noah and Tyler cooked up a 51-run partnership before Tyler was run out, leaving the score at 2-67 after 18 overs. Wanneroo lost 4 quick wickets in 4 overs, Tyler (25), Noah (27), Oscar (1) and Hamza (0) leading to a panic back in the sheds. Out came Brock Prance and Oliver Hudson to the crease. They made a small 28 run partnership with Brock nicking off for 16. Wanneroo were now 6-97 after 29 overs needing a big partnership to stay in the game. Liam Carroll and Oliver Hudson produced a 42-run partnership taking the score to 7-140 with 9 overs left. Liam unfortunately hit one to backward point for 17. Wanneroo were bowled out shortly after for 163 after 43.1 overs. Oliver Hudson ended up on 48*, a great knock to help give Wanneroo a competitive total.

Liam opened the bowling, and Alex Fitzmaurice accompanied him at the other end. Fitta got an easy wicket first ball of his over which got Wanneroo off to the best start possible. Liam picked up one in his 3rd over with Subiaco Floreat now 2/24 after 5. Josh Lynn took a wicket in his first over with Subi now 3/41 after 12 overs. Subi consolidated for a bit. Tyler picked up a wicket with a very hard caught and bowled. Brock came on to bowl a bit later and picked up a wicket which was very much needed now that Subi were 5/100 after 29 overs, needing 64 to win. Subi chased down the rest of Wanneroo’s total of 163 and won by 5 wickets. Wanneroo’s wickets were shared around with Fitta, Liam, Josh, Tyler and Brock all getting 1. Unfortunately, that ends Wanneroo’s undefeated win streak. Will be looking to bounce back hard next week.
